About

The Asbestos Training Institute was founded in 2024 to provide quality, client-focused and practical training to meet the new provincial requirements regarding mandatory training and licensing for asbestos abatement work which came into effect on January 1, 2024.

All work that is associated to asbestos is a very serious matter. Whether it pertains to minimizing exposure, through surveying, abatement or disposal. The Occupational Health Safety Guidelines Part 6 pertaining to asbestos are complicated and detailed and not easy to interpret without proper training. Quality education and instruction is paramount to ensure you and your workers are equipped to perform their duties safely and responsibly.

Our training courses are provided in-person, and not online. You will have the opportunity to ask questions freely and learn in a small group classroom of 6-20 participants.

Customize your group training at our facility in Coquitlam or at your Company’s workplace.

His post-secondary education includes a Technologist Diploma in Civil and Structural Engineering from BCIT and a Bachelor in Civil Engineering from Lakehead University in Ontario with a major in environmental and water resource management from Lakehead University. Adrian is a registered member of the Applied Science Technologist and Technicians of British Columbia.

Adrian began his career in asbestos at Pinchin Harris Holland Ltd in Richmond (now Pinchin Ltd) in the early 1990s as a building inspector where he spent three years conducting hazardous materials site assessments at school, pulp mills, government buildings and industrial sites throughout British Columbia. Following this position, he worked four years for ACM Environmental in Vancouver where he continued to perform work with asbestos abatement and hazardous materials assessments including Phase 1 and Phase 2 work. After acquiring significant experience in the hazardous materials industry, Adrian created an abatement company, Universal Environmental Services in 1994 followed by Epoch Environmental Consulting and testing lab, Epoch Analytical Inc. Epoch Analytical became ISO 17025 accredited by NVLAP and CALA in 2007. Proudly, Adrian has built these reputable businesses on knowledge, experience, honesty, and integrity.

In Adrian completed the AHERA Building Inspector and Management certifications in 2006 at the University of Berkley. He also became a certified lead professional having completed training at the University of Berkley and acquired a license for Level 2 X-ray fluorescence operator for open beam portable devices with the National Non-Destructive Testing Certification Body, Natural Resources Canada.

Aside from understanding abatement procedure and consulting, Adrian is also a proficient airborne asbestos fiber counting analyst (NIOSH 7400) and an asbestos bulk analyst (EPA600/R93-116). He completed microscopy training for both test methods at the renown McCrone Research Institute in Chicago, IL.

Because Adrian has over 35 years working in the asbestos industry and has hands-on experience conducting abatement and remediation, he is a very effective instructor in delivering relevant and practical application of course content as it applies to WorkSafeBC OHS Guidelines Part 6. Epoch Environmental Consulting is an approved subcontractor to WorkSafeBC and is hired to investigate complicated stop-work shutdowns and criminal investigations.

Adrian enjoys sharing his breadth of knowledge in the field and provides a customized “in-person” classroom experience at our multiple office locations or at the client’s site location. You will not get this level of instruction from any other providers in the industry. Do not settle for anything less for you and your employees. If you want full compliance and well-trained employees, look no further!
